Just as an fyi, for me in WI agrostemma has a vase life of about 7 days if you harvest when the first bloom on the cluster is open. It may have a shorter vase life in warmer climates? Not too sure! I’ve grown the white (ocean pearls) for the past 3 years and florists really do love them! The purple one “purple Queen” has 8-10 day vase life according to a North Carolina University study. It’s mentioned in the postharvest book published by the ascfg. That color would likely appeal to your customers, Alex, if you are looking for a new spring crop. 😉 Mine bloomed in the tunnel along with the end of ranunculus/beginning of peony season. I will be fall sowing outside the tunnel in early September.

Agree, zones mean nothing. I can walk to my friends house and our growing conditions are completely different. I'm on clay, she's on sand. I am closer to sea level and have about three weeks on her for both first and last frost. The sunrise comes up over Quadra Island and hits us immediately and all day. She is surrounded by trees and gets far less sun.

Agrostemma. Never heard of that one. Looked it up, reminds me of alstroemeria (also called Peruvian lily) but it’s much simpler & doesn’t last as long. I should learn more & why florists like it so much & with such a short life cycle how it is worth it!

Thank you for making your video's! I have been watching you from the very beginning and enjoy the journey with you. :) I am in my late 50's and have an opportunity to start my own little flower business but wonder if I can make it work with just my husband and me. However, you inspire me to try it! I figure if you can do it with a large family and homeschooling...I probably can do it as an empty nester and now retired.. :) I did wonder how much your hubby helps because mine works full time as well. He is willing...but we both were wondering the time commitment for us both. This video helps me in my pondering. Thanks again! And take care of yourself! Blessings and prayers your way!

The videos show how thoughtful and intentional you are, and one can't argue with the success of your no-filler bouquets. However, for me, a little bit of neutral or green, floaty material like dill flowers, bupleurum or saponaria raises the perceived value by breaking up the mass of color and letting the individual blooms shine.
